Nan Hoover
Nan Hoover was born in 1931. In 1969 she moved to Amsterdam and became a Dutch citizen six years later. She was trained as a painter at the Corcoran Gallery Art School, in Washington D.C. Since 1975 she was actively working in video, performance and photography. She was awarded a Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst Fellowship (DAAD) in 1980. She moved to Berlin in 2005, and re-energized her career with numerous exhibitons in galleries and museums. Nan Hoover mentored numerous students. Her professorships at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf, and Rietveld Akademie, Amsterdam were highly valued, and she generously provided many opportunities for young artists. Nan Hoover was friend and colleague to artists and curators around the world, throughout her life. She actively performed, and her work was exhibited widely in museums, festivals and art galleries up until her death in 2008.
