Sophiensaele

The Sophiensaele are the oldest continuously operating venue for independently produced theatre and dance projects in Berlin. The venue was founded in 1996 by Sasha Waltz, Jochen Sandig, Jo Fabian and Lubricat as a production and performance space. The idea of creating a new arts venue in Sophienstraße arose from a desire to combine production and presentation under one roof and to give artists optimal working conditions. Today, Sophiensaele is one of the main production centres for independent theatre and dance in Germany.
